Tire and Wheel Upgrade Question
Tire and Wheel Upgrade Question
I purchased a 2009 997.2 with 18" wheels last year and I am thinking about upgrading the wheels and tires. I am considering 19" wheels. Do I need to make any adjustments to the car or can I just put them on drive?
Thanks,
Scott

No modifications are required to go from 18's to 19's. You'll of course need to verify the wheels are made for the hub and really the only thing you will want to consider will be spacers on the wheels to obtain proper offset. That's it. Oh, and buy Michelin Super Sports. :-)

I agree. Every time I replace tires I have the car aligned. Freeway conditions being what they are, it is just good to know you are properly aligned with new rubber.

Just another opinion here: if my tires wore down evenly I leave it alone as far as an alignment. I have 19 s on my 997.2 also. Remember when you go from an 18 to a 19 the tire size will be one inch lower profile to keep the overall diameter the same. That s why no other changes are needed as far as speedo and such...
As some mentioned you do need to be concerned with rim offsets for proper fitment.

Maybe I am getting hung up in your wording, but a Porsche, or any car for that matter does not necessarily need a wheel alignment when replacing the tires. However, checking alignment is a reasonable task, which includes steering and suspension components, as well as a reading of the toe, camber, and caster angles.
