re-CPO

Hi all,

I was at my dealership this morning for maintenance.

I discussed about CPO and options once it is expired. I have been very surprise. He told me that now Porsche allow re-CPOing a car. It has to be renewed before CPO expires.

You guys were aware of that?

How much it cost in the US? My Canadian dealership told me it is $3500.

Canadian dealership can’t re-cpo a car coming from the US, it has to be done by a US dealer.

I had no idea they could do that, thankfully I have 3 1/2 years left on my CPO so I am good for a while. Honestly after that I do not plan to buy another Warranty.

IMS issues scare me a lot. even if I know it's pretty rare on 2006 997.
and I have no faith in 3rd party warranty...

IMO, a porsche warranty is a great solution, it has a great value to me and I trust porsche as they do care to their reputation

so I love the fact that I can re-CPO my CPOed dream car

There are multiple levels of coverage available. I believe for the top of the line premium coverage, which is 4 yrs/100k miles, runs in the upwards of $6k plus a small service fee to recert the car.

Great for Brand loyalty, resale and oh by the way,...they make money off it!
People pay more for this extended warranty/insurance...because it's from Porsche.
I'm sure it's underwritten by an insurance co.
Nothing wrong, IJS.

My CPO is about to expire in a month and wondering if this is an option. I was told by my local dealership a year ago that this is not.
The car been good to me the past 2 years but a few repairs were done under CPO that would have cost around $1500 at the dealership. Wonder if it worth the extra CPO (if available) or just fix it at a local P shop as things come.

I don't think they care about their reputation. They care about making money and they have obviously recognized that they don't have to go out of their way with goodwill to maintain a very profitable brand. Good for them. Just saying that "care" is not a word I easily associate with Porsche.

Ask anyone who had an IMS failure post warranty expiration. P-car owners loyal to the brand for decades get the middle finger when their cars have catastrophic engine failures due to what's clearly a design flaw. Or ask the Rennlist member who proudly displayed his collection of Porsche manuals, brochures etc. only to get a nasty letter from PCNA's notorious legal department.

I love the cars they build but I detest their corporate culture which seems to be built around arrogance, greed and a pack of lawyers with both fangs and horns. So back on topic. I'm not at all convinced that a CPO policy will be any more generous than a reputable third party source. I have a third party policy identical to the CPO coverage except....no deductible. One claim so far which was cleared over the phone in less than a minute.
