I was fooled by my 997.2 C2

I recently purchased a 2009 997.2 C2 and have been enjoying driving around town and taking trips of perhaps 10-15 miles at the most. I noticed the manual transmission loosenned up on those longer trips but did not think much about it. Today I took a drive of about 140 miles on the freeway at 60-80 mph, just for fun. I was suprised at how much more the manual transmission loosenned up--shifting was completely effortless and so smooth. The engine ran better than it ever has before as well. I drove about 50 miles with the RPM's between 4000-5000 to heat things up a bit. The outside temp was 49-54 F and the oil temp barely went above 200 F. I drove at lower RPM's coming home and the engine was running really well. What a great car. Certainly designed to be driven a lot and often!

Amen to that. Most cars feel lethargic and "worn out" after they get good and hot. That's when my 997 starts to wake up.

If you drove it in the 10-15 mile range at most, then you barely got the car warmed up... and that isn't very good for the engine.

Hi Minok, yes, that is what I have come to understand based on reading a bunch of posts on this forum. The 997.2 is my daily driver, however, so I guess I will see what happens down the road. The reason I drove at high RPM for 50 miles to warm things up a bit was to get rid of the water and gas which may have found it way into the engine oil.

When cold, it's virtually impossible to get into 1st unless at a dead stop.
