I am sure none of us will be competing at the Ring anytime soon and losing to a Cayman.......
All this stuff cracks me up!

Remember guys, this lap time (8:11) was achieved with PASM and PCCB for Cayman.
Carrera (8:15) was without PASM and PCCB. These two things makes a lot of a difference on Nurburgring.
It would be better to compare Cayman and 911 with the same basic equipment and not optional gismos. But Porsche needs to convinve everybody for the potential of Cayman...

I care. I don't neccassarily love the looks of the Cayman, but we have to admit it's somewhat similar in looks...$20,000-$30,000 cheaper...and is faster??? All I'm saying is that if Porsche knew they were going to release the Cayman and that it would be faster than the 997, they should have made the Carrera with 355 hp, and the "S" with 375, etc. IMO, this somewhat lowers the bar for us Carrera owners.

Maybe I should of waited and bought a Turbo.
Nonetheless, I still love my 997.

It has nothing to do with the power, guys. It's a smaller, mid-engine car ... of course it's going to be competitive on the track. For those saying, "It's still not a 911," you're right! It's not. That doesn't mean that it's not an amazing car. Porsche has a myriad of wonderful options to choose from, and "having a 911" has never been such an ambiguous statement as it is today.
CGT, GT2, GT3, 996, 997, Turbo, etc etc ...
The Cayman is just another option. There is no need for any Porsche-on-Porsche hostility.
Plus, as many of you said, it's not a 911. So why should 911 owners feel cheated? Certainly you're not buying one solely for performance, otherwise there really are better avenues toward higher performance using the same funds.

I am sure it is a great car and I hope whoever buys one loves the hell out of it......i dont hate it i just think its funny with all this ring talk...
Lets drag race and or race up the mountains and last one standing wins...my bet at the track or in the mountains, the one with the biggest ***** will cross the line first, since we are not pro drivers!

I'm confused. From the articles I've read, the Cayman S curb weight is 3152 lbs. The 997 is 3075........Kman has 295hp....997 has 325hp.......
The question is: Does PASM, PCCB and mid-engine give Kman that much of an edge? Really

Seems to me that with the exception of the one long straightaway, the ring is all about tight corners and fast exit speeds. The lighter car with the better brakes is going to win in that type of contest. This isn't that great a shock, though I do agree that the base 997 should have more than 325 HP.
Currently there seems to be too small a gap to drop a car in between the Boxster S and the base 997. Figures on the Cayman S for pricing have it starting at just under $60k right.. with options, that car could conceivably be more than a completely stock 997. That aint right.
