I believe the striped ones on the Focal's are positive. I believe it is indicated in the manual or somewhere else. On the OEM wires, I think the striped ones are negative. Check evhudsons thread for a polarity guide on the OEM wiring.

The comment on the bad looks of the focals were meant in humor. We complain of the cheap looking bose speakers, the focals were nit any better after all, but of course in the end its the sound that comes out that matters. Im anxiously waiting for the results of cab's install. Hoping for positive results brother

Might be a good idea to use a heat gun to melt the glue. Might be cleaner and you do not have to destroy the focal housing just in case it does not work out. Just an idea.

Color blind. The factory wire is actually not red-striped. It's brown-striped. hahahha

I used the Fluke to test polarity. Anyways, you could not use heat gun. The heat might destroy the electronics. Lastly, to increase the diameter of the Focal, I just wrapped it with rubberized- and regular electric tape.

I already tested one and it works!!!!

Here is the installed pic.

I used links to photo bucket rather than importing the pics.

Thanks.

The fronts are done without much effort. Note to everyone:

On the driver side, the wires are gray and the positive is the striped one.

On the passenger side, the wires are red and the striped one is the negative.

Go figure!

how the sound with only the tweeters replaced? any feedback on that? a few have mentioned that changing the tweeters alone produces a noticeable improvement to the sound of the system

To have accurate feedback, I would need a few days --- most speakers need break-in periods.

I did listen to them for about 3 minutes and they sounded like my ,Martin Logans. This paragraph is actually for humor purposes only.

I don't think it will be a "maybe" -- it will for sure be better. One thing I am thinking is that since I removed the Focal grill mesh, the tweets will be brighter since the factory cover mesh would be the only material that the sound would need to penetrate.

Have you installed yours? Breaking the housing is so ez. The glue are just at opposing sides. Just dremel the 12 and 6 o'clock sides to thin-out the housing then use pliers to break the housing into two pieces.

The innermost housing remained unscratched for me. I took pics and I could elaborate further if you or others need it.

Double check your polarity also. As suspected, the US color coding method may not apply to Porsches!!!

As i live in the opposite side of the world and i ordered my speakers from there, 30 days before getting hold of them. Actually want to install them already but i guess thats the disadvantage of being so far from the source of materials..
I agree so much with the imprtance of polarity. Make or break a system even if its low powered, correct polarity sound systems sound good.
I really appreciate how this topic aims to really share to others reality experience with only speaker upgrades to the dreaded bose system.. Thanks brothers.

But that's the fun part.... The waiting, the chase.

I ordered the 8's for the doors. Though I have them already, I had to work on changing the engine mount on my daughter's Honds Civic today. I might start tomorrow as I am very excited.

I'm still grateful to Ryem3 for having spent the time-consuming research. We are just installers after the fact!

Cheers!

actually your exercise is a important as brother rye's, i would say. though starting something new is always so difficult! innovation is also very important. for those who will have the courage to undertake this exercise, we will be more confident to do so knowing that all the original parts can be reinstalled if unsatisfied. the untouched tweeter mounting, im sure is a glad note to all! knowing you do not have to destroy the oem mount is like having a warranty to return if not satisfied! in the end if we all get the great sound that our brother got with his system we will all owe his a 6 pack and a lot of gratitude.
