I am surprised there are no mention of a Subaru WRX yet... That or the Mini Cooper S? I just feel like such a letdown when I have to switch cars when you try to get up and go and there is no power there.

Thanks everyone/ I am NOT getting rid of 911s!

Just to be clear: I was asking about a second car, for everyday practical use.

Thanks for replies. I did not know there was a manual Cayenne. Hmmmmm!!!

I'll report back on what I choose.

THANK YOU

I think if you're considering an S4, then you should consider the RS4. I mean if you're gonna do it, you might as well DO it.

Cayenne Turbo S also sounds good to me. That 2006 model was a beast- never seen one with a stick, but you know, maybe give your clutch knee a break once in a while, and save your energy for huffing all those boxes around? Or maybe there is a six speed out there... (The Black Unicorn)

I agree with some of the others, test drive a few and keep an open mind. Post up what you land on.

Get a Cayenne. I drive my wife's Cayenne S to Sam's Club, UPS Store and anywhere else I need to carry large stuff, or more stuff than the 911 can carry.

Lexus Rx SUVs. Decent size and space, best in class fuel economy, cheapest to maintain, should last forever.

any budget in mind?

No one has said G37 coupe or perhaps the G35 sedan? RWD, manual trans available and over 300 hp, X model for snow. Find a nice used one for a daily. You get a lot of car for the money.

Ditto. But mine is 2004. Great truck, no problems ever. Just turned 80k yesterday. Perfect yin/yang combo.

Late to the party as usual
You can nearly steal a TDI sport wagon NEW and not feel bad about using it like a truck. Great vehicle and so easy to own.

OK, so here's my question.

I need an 'everyday' car to drive to work and it needs to have the ability to carry some decent size boxes... I own businesses that I shop for regularly. So a 911 is just impractical.

What car is there... from the present or RECENT past... that has SPACE--a real back seat, a real trunk, and best of all worlds, a HATCH, that has the excitement and fun of a 911? I'll answer that. NONE.

But what would you recommend in the real world? I need serious reliability.

What do you guys think of a current Audi s4 manual?

What would you drive to work if you were me? Gotta be manual Trans!

Thanks.

Actually, I'm of the same mind. Second cars have always been a wagon or pickup. Currently, I've got a 4Runner which is pretty darn wonderful.

unfortunately I can only afford one super car at a time. I do have a 1998 GMC Yukon GT with oversized tires that is actually bad ***. It won't give a thrill ride, but it does have the v8 rumble. I just put the windows down, bring the dog along and play country music at loud levels. I have a nice stereo in their that bumps and sings.

I have it to tow my boat to the boat ramp, but during heavy key west rains I drive it instead of the Porsche as the roads are susceptible to flash flooding and tree limbs. It's kind of fun four wheeling under those conditions and is at least for this small island a decent alternative when I need it.
