Topic has been covered ad nauseum. Search a bit and you'll find 100 post about how it sucks and a few posts with suggestions for fixing it. Eg stuffing the sub, replacing tweeters.

Also scroll down the main 997 page and read the "my budget audio install" thread. Lots of good stuff there too.

No, it is not you. Have had 3 late model Porsches with the Bose (Bad Overpriced Sound Excuse) system and they all sucked. I'm looking at the Alpine "drop in" system as a direct replacement for the PCM head unit and retaining the Bose wiring and speakers. I believe it is offers as a kit from MDR Audio in CA.

As others have said, this has been well covered. It is an embarrassment to both Porsche and Bose that the system is just so mediocre (especially considering the price). Good luck and keep us posted, as I will as well.

we just replaced the receiver(Bose Premium sound) in our 2008 c4 with a Alpine INE 940(if i remember correctly) Ran about $1800.00 installed. We wanted nav, bluetooth and ipod hookup. very happy with it so far. The one we removed did not have nav or ipod, but did have the Tooki Bluetooth.
If anyone is interested in buying what we removed, make an offer.

No matter what sound system you put in a 911 it will sound lousy because of ambient engine and road noise. Don't waste your money unless you are going to listen to it while sitting in your driveway with the engine off, draining your battery.

I just sold an A7 with the Bang and Olufson sound package in it ( $6,000.00 up charge). Sounded great, but still it's a car and it will never come even close to how a high end sound system will sound in your living room...nature of the beast.

I have the Bose in my 09 C2S and I think it sounds amazing... crisp sound, tons of base. Do we have different setups? (I do have PCM & Nav)

Exactly. Check my post. Huge improvements are possible for way less than the $2k cost of a new head unit.

The Bose system is a total joke. Interestingly, the amp is pretty good. Power some decent speakers with it and the results are quite good.

The weird thing I find with the bose is that it sounds drastically different at low and high volumes. At low volumes it's like there's a complete lack of midbass, if you turn it up a fair bit it becomes decent (not objectionable) and as you turn it up further the tweeters get really harsh. I've never heard another car audio system that sounded so totally different at different volumes before.

Also if you use faders to bring everything up front, for some reason the bass drops off sharply despite the fact that the biggest speakers (other than the sub which doesn't get faded) are up front in the doors.

Oddly enough, when you fade to the front, it fades out the sub. I know, pretty ridiculous.

Apparently the sub does get faded when one brings all to the front. Stupid but maybe that is the case. And maybe those 8 inch drivers are actually part of the sub system which also gets faded. Dont you just love how those bose engineers think. Totally stu..d. And marketing manage to sell their products at a premium as an upgrade!

My Bose system is just ok in my opinion. Had a 13' Panamera for a loaner past 2 days, I thought the stereo sounded incredible. I'm no audiophile but I would love a touch screen and Bluetooth for the electronic leash!
