the tip is slightly different in shape but still in oval i remember.

I listened to your comparison audio clips and I am really interested in the Sports Exhaust. I'm gonna call my Porsche store Monday am. Do you remember what they cost, complete and out the door.
Thanks

Doc
my dealer charged me $4000 USD, (everything is more expensive in SA) with the installation included, it took them 2 days!! Mine was the first one that they've retrofitted. Should be about 3k or so in the states and should only take those guys 10 or so hours.

Thanks. I am surprised that the noise level does not increase with the second port open? You do not notice a difference at higher RPMs either?

i would not go for SE unless that car is leased and included in the price... doing factory exhaust after the car's on the road just doesn't make sense to me... and with a HP increase of 6-8 is just outrages... maybe you should consider AWE Tuning for the additional 40HP increase and for the same price... i have had the AWE for about 2 weeks now... and enjoying everybit of it... the sound is a deeper tone and louder as you rev the car... also i opt for the 300 cell cat which is alittle quieter than the 100 cell cats... but trust me it is worth it... just my 0.02

6088TTS,
What does the AWE tuning consist of. Does it affect the warranty.
I see you're living in God's country, did you have the work done in Canada?
Thanks

Doc

Yeah, and did you dyno the car before and after?? It looks very impressive on the AWE site. Is there anyone else who has independently verified the HP claims?

anything that isn't from porsche affects the warranty, which is why i opted for the factory sports exhaust. if i want anything aftermarket i'll do it once the warranty period is over

When I bought mt 997 3.6 a month ago I assumed there wouldn't be a problem with enhancements, e.g., exhausts. My Porsche store tells me yesterday the sports exhaust they stock is for the 997S, the 3.8 engine. Also it seem every thread I have read on this site and others is dealing with the 3.8. I am more than disappointed these facts were not disclosed to me when I made the purchase. I have to keep this car a couple of years and I really like it's drivability, but I wish I had researched the matter a little further. I'm going to call a couple of tuners and see if I can get another 25-35 HP without voiding the warranty.

Hey Doc, I have been very upfront with my dealer about my intentions to do intake/exhaust and that if they are not interested in backing me up that I don't want the car. In addition, I have gotten good feedback form other locals that the dealer is more than happy to service and warranty modded cars.

The dealer would have to prove that any failure on the car would have to be directly related to the mod, so in other words, they cannot deny an RMS claim because you have an aftermarket exhaust. EVO has done a lot of work on the base 997, you may want to check them out.

I just got off the phone with Arling **** of Lucent. I feel better after talking with him. He will do the exhausts next month. Thanks for your response. I will call EVO too.
