I'm pretty sure that anything listed as not covered by the settlement has the larger bearing. However, some vehicles listed under the lawsuit, especially early 2005 builds, may have the larger bearing. Seems they started putting them in vehicles before the "official" date, but seems to be totally random. Mine is a Jan 2005 build listed under the settlement, but when I had the IMS done the LN approved installer made it quite clear that there really is no way of knowing which bearing is in there until you get to see it, as they have found both types in early 2005 builds.

Once they switched over to the larger bearing I haven't seen anything that says the smaller bearing was installed instead.

So you're saying Porsche decided to extend the listing of suspects to make sure they covered all of the small bearing builds, plus some builds they weren't sure about. A buffer zone?

Kind of, there seems to be a set date that they starting installing the larger bearing in every vehicle. However, just before that happened it seems to have been a little gray, with some vehicles getting the larger bearing and some the smaller. From what I understand none of the vehicles they know have the larger bearing are covered by the settlement, but the ones they are unsure about are covered.

You would think this would be something they would have records of, but apparently not.

If you are not part of the settlement than I think it is safe to say that you have the larger bearing. If you have an early 2005 build that is part of the settlement then you may have either bearing.

I emailed with the law firm for the IMS settlement and they confirmed that proactive coverage under the suit is not in scope. You will have to wait for a failure to recoup anything and since my car is 2005 I have until the in-service date in 2015 for coverage.

My Fidelity warranty likely won't provide any proactive coverage either so it would likely be out of pocket.

Most people have gone with the IMS Retrofit by sounds of it. Has anyone w/ a 2005 gone w/ the entire Solution? Anyone local in the Bay Area?

Question. I bought a 2005 Launch car in the fall. Love it to bits. My question is, does LN Engineering keep vin#'s if the fix has been done? I hate to make the purchase, get a new clutch and tear it down only to find that it was done already!

i doubt LN keeps vin's for that unless there is some sort of registry; i can't imagine anyone who has paid the money to get it done wouldn't include the receipt of the work done in their paperwork file/folder for the vehicle (to be transferred to the new owner).

Previous owner would have for sure used this fix as a selling point and told you about it.

Off topic but how many miles before you normally swap clutch?

I actually read that LN does keep a database of cars they have worked on to see if there was correlation on the IMS and that is how they concluded it was random.
