Oil filter o ring

Just changed the oil for the first time, feels good knowing I don't have to drop her into a garage for at least another 2 years.

With the oil filter o ring, I am a bit concerned about how it ended up not sitting completely straight the whole way round inside its seated groove. It was still seated in the correct groove the whole way round, just half of the o ring was at the top of the groove, the other half at the bottom of the groove, hope you understand what I mean. The space that it is meant to sit in is a bit wider than the thickness of the o ring it's self and this allowed for it to not be sitting in the same part of the groove the whole way around the canister due to it twisting when I pulled it down over the thread.

Would it of corrected its self and formed the right seal once screwed back in? I assume it not the worst case scenario is leaking oil from the canister that I would be able to easily spot, on the side of the canister, on the ground and also the oil level gauge dropping..

Hoping that I understood you correct, yes it is okay as long as the o-ring sits in the groove.

And yes, the worst case is that it will leak slowly. Just recheck it after a few miles.

I am going to assume you are torqueing it to factory spec.

I think it will correct itself as it s tightened....
I just snug mine down, no torque wrench used< never had one leak.

too tall is infamous around these parts
During the process of tightening you should feel the O-ring seat itself into the engine.
