AWE exhaust and CEL

I have an AWE exhaust (minus the mufflers for right now) on a 2006 C2S. The CEL came on about 500 miles ago. The Durametric cable said it was P0430/P0420, the catalytic converter system.

I reset the codes to see what would happen. They came back a coupe days ago. I contacted AWE and they said they sell a spacer that will pull the O2 sensor out of the stream just a little bit. They are $159.90 for the pair. You install these in the sensors AFTER the cat.

On my way home the CEL spontaneously turned off. Sort of odd.

Here are my questions:

Does anyone have experience with this?

Did the space work?

Is this a common issue?.......should I try to get AWE to simply give them to me because they should have come with the exhaust in the first place?

How easy is the install? Any pics?

Thanks

AWE shouldnt be selling exhaust parts that throw CEL's. if they do, that's bad business and bad engineering on their part. you shouldnt have to pay $159 for a part to make their parts work. i would imagine your CEL is due to an exhaust leak. i would go back and re-tighten all your fittings.

my car was throwing a CEL from my full fabspeed exhaust. i dropped off my car at fabspeed and they worked on it until they got it right and they did it at no charge. AWE should work with you until they get it right.

Unhappy

Not sure how long you've had this and if you bought it new. Heres my experience with 2006 S, 38 k miles.

I've had full AWE system for last 6 or so yrs. For the last 2+ years I will throw a cel every 4-6 months (3-4 k miles). I assume the cats are a touch tired but there has also been a series of other mods to the breathing end. Awe sent me the adaptors but the threading was too shallow to allow them to be tightened on my engine and I ended up w exhaust leaks.

Honestly I don't stress over this any longer. When in for service I have light turned off. I have left it on to have it reset itself as you describe. Intermittent cat issues on these motors are not unusual. Do a search here and elsewhere. She runs the same which is to say "great".

I seem to recall way back when that early cats came w lifetime warranty. I would be upset to have to pay for those spacers if you are the original owner of the system. Let me know if you learn anything new on this. In meantime, don't hesitate to drive it

Honestly no. My feeling at that point was that the cure was worse than the disease. I could live easily with an occasional and minimal ripple in emissions. I don't drive enough for it to be a threat to Mother Earth. If it were to really become a problem I would try to get replacement from them, failing that I'd buy another set of cats. The system is that good. Been a long time and it has not gotten worse. If you want to try the ones I have I kept them. I can't remember what the issues were over whether they would help or not. Only for early version of cat I think but don't remember. They are/were great to work with.
