Muffler bypass pipes
Just ordered the fabspeed muffler bypass pipes for my 2008 997S. I'll let you know how it turns out. A guy in my club has them on his 996 and I love the sound.
How did it turn out???
I left them on for a while, but I couldn't take the drone on the highway. Loved the noise for autocross and track days but couldn't stand it anywhere else. Installation/removal was easy. I took the rear wheels off and removed the metal bumper support (about 1/4" diameter metal tube just behind the rear wheel well) and I had plenty of room to work.
I put these on for about two weeks, crazy loud and they drone so bad it actually makes you physically ill. I tried to put inserts in the pipes to cancel drone but the back pressure hurt performance. I actually used ear plugs untill I had time to take them off. Sold them on this board. The do sound great at full throttle.
I got Sharkweks's muffler bypass pipes installed on my 997 GTS (with PSE). Love the result. The car is a bit louder when sports exhaust flaps closed, and much louder with lower tone and some burble when opened. I highly recommend this modification; although unless you install your self, be prepared to pay about $630 for install at a steelership.
Here's a video of before / after though it doest capture the sound accurately.. sounds better in person.
