Coolant Leak - What can I do?

Folks,

I noticed the following leak on my 2006 C4S. Is there a gasket that can be replaced or is it more involved?

I thank you in advance for any help.

Yves

You can get a replacement valve, just the gasket or a whole new tank that comes with a new valve. I would start by removing the cap, on a cold engine, to release any excess pressure and then tighten the individual screws on the pressure relief valves cover. Don't over do it, just tighten enough to insure all screws are nice and snug. Then drive it, getting the temp up to normal, for a few days and see if you notice any improvement. If that doesn't help then the question becomes how old it the tank ? As it's pushing 8 years old you would be better off replacing the tank (with the included new valve already installed) as the tanks are prone to cracking as they get older and the valves price by itself is high relative to the price of the new tank.

Yves, my tank had almost identical crud like yours and my coolant level was slightly low. I topped off with distilled water and tightened the screws slightly. My cap was the old leaky model so I also replaced with a the newer one just to be safe. About 6 weeks later there is a tiny amount of buildup and my level hasn't dropped. I just retightened again ever so slightly. Mine is an 06 with 65K miles - I know I'm on borrowed time here as far as the tank is concerned but things seem stable for now. JC

Is there a torque value when tightening the screws on the valve? Maybe someone can share so it removes the guessing on how tight these things should be.
