is it possible to replace ac/recirc flap motor without removing dashboard

this is in connection with the error code 8023, assuming there is a problem with the ac/recirc flap motor. the thing is held onto the ac housing with one screw. it is located on the far right side of the ac housing. has anybody successfully replaced this thing without removing the whole dash? it looks so simple to replace but according to the manual refrigerant has to be removed ac housing removed anddash removed. i said wow for replacing a motor in less than 2 minutes the prep is so much work!!!
