x51 info and pics
HI
This is Joe @ Fabspeed Motorsports. Porsche engineering 100% deliberately engineered a restrictive exhaust for the 997S cars so that Porsche AG will be easily able to offer and actually surpass 996 GT3 power levels with X51 equiped 997S cars. The 997 X51 Club cars make significantly more torque (approx. +19FTLBS) and +1hp versus the GT3
Furthermore Porsche must offer even greater POWER levels for the 997 GT3 cars. What Porsche has done and always will do for marketing & sales purposes is engineer higher and higher power levels. This is normal and customary and is done by all the automotive manufacturers. That way people keep upgrading their cars!
I bought a 997 S car and CLOSELY looked over the 997 S X51 Club coupe @ the Hershey Porsche parade.
Porsche made some simple changes to the exhaust on the X51 Club coupe and the special airintake to gain +26HP and +19ftlbs versus the regualr 997S cars.
FYI Porsche ag re-used the lousy 2002-2004 996 headers for the X51 car and got rid of the OLD STYLE 997 S headers. So therefore as I have stated the 997S headers are crappy and restrictive.........so essentially Porsche went into their parts BIN and just got the regular Plain Vanilla 996 headers and found more power.
The remainder of the X51 power was acheived by the new double intake airbox system. Porsche AG 997S X51 Club Coupe printed handouts stated that the increased power was from "special airflow management from intake and exhaust engineering".
Guys Porsche simply "uncorked" the engine's intake and exhaust paths............like I and other have stated........the 997S is a beast waiting to be unleashed. The 997 S easily has GT3 power with a few simple logical cost effective bolt on modifications.
Someone asked- Can you add power to the 997S X51 cars?
YES
Given all of the above I will mention that Fabspeed Motorsports 1 piece C.N.C. Mandrel bent equal lenght headers with triangular merge collectors are a solid upgrade over any 997S headers and especially over any 996 headers or X51 headers.
Also all 2000 to 2005 996 and 997 cars all have 4 catalytic converters from Porsche as stock OEM parts. Fabspeed Motorsports GERMAN imported sport catalytic converters also will add power and torque and are a simple logical bolt on and comply with warranty and emmisions. NO CEL and no issues.
Our 997 Maxflo performance mufflers will reduce backpressure and sound better that stock and also DONT have the vacuum valves nonsense of the X51 boat anchor mufflers. You save weight on the rear of all 996, GT3 and 997 cars.
You re-use your 997 tips or we have Quad 997 tips available that will fit both the 997 and S cars.
If you want more information we have a very informative Video on our website that explains everything regading 996, GT3 and 997 modifications with stock OEM parts placed right next to Fabspeed Motorsport performance parts.
have a great day
