there are 2, which one are you referring to? One is hidden in the spoiler and you can only see it when it pops up at 50 or 75miles per hour, The other one is just below your rear window.

We have both the thin brake light which mounts right below the rear glass as well as the one on the automatic rear spoiler.

upper light bar

The third brake light (below windshield) comes as a strip of plastic with the lights embedded in it. I have a 997.2 so it was LEDs
To acces it, go into the back seats, take off the trim just below the window.
Then you will need an 11mm deep socket.
This will allow you to take off the metal part that is on the back of the car.
It is between the bottom of the window and the top of the spoiler area.
Once that is out, it is a clip off the old one and clip on the new one.
Good luck
