The stainless/gold combo makes it a sports and formal watch.
It just sucks when I have to pay almost a $1,000.00 to get it serviced and cleaned.
And how many Timex can we buy for $1,000.00?
Yeah, but to be honest, a $10.00 Timex is much more accurate than any automatic expensive watch. That reminds me, I need to send mine in for service soon.

+1
There has been some arguments in the office about the need for wristwatches. With the existence of cell phones (and personal computers), they raised the question, "Why do you still need a watch?"
They are correct as cell phones and computes are synchronized with the atomic clock.
Me? I am sticking with my wristwatch. I like not having to reach into my pocket for the cell phone to find the time.
BTW, I just bought the Bulova Chrono Precisionist 98B212. It's supposed to have an accuracy of 10 sec/year.

I agree with you. I don't like digging in my pocket for a cellphone to check time. Ever notice how people who use their phones as their watch are always the ones who ask people with wristwatches what time it is?
Doesn't have to be very expensive to be great looking and keep time. I feel those over the top watches are more of a status symbol rather than something of necessity.

I like my simple yet stylist Swedish made watch.
I agree that a watch doesn't need to be expensive, but I don't understand your comment about "necessity", especially in a Porsche forum. A Porsche isn't a necessity, but that doesn't mean it's not worth the money or just a status symbol. Also, your watch doesn't appear to be that cheap, either. A Timex for $10.00 will outperform your watch and is more practical, so by your logic, even your watch is over the top.
If you look at the expensive watches, you are paying for very complex and precise movements plus high quality materials. A "simple" watch while useful and practical cannot be compared to an automatic watch with day-date, GMT, perpetual calendars, etc... Also, watches like Rolex are not just a fashion symbol. They are built to be very tough and last a lifetime.
I will agree with that opinion. I guess depending on who is wearing and why makes a difference. I have seen both sides of the $$ ladder. Some should wear them and others shouldn't.

Yeah and I've had $100 or less watches that received tons of compliments. In my 5 years of wearing my Rolex, I'd say less than five people have ever even noticed it. Most Rolex are not that flashy and won't even catch the layperson's eye.

Plain old stainless GMT Master II for me. Since you brought it up, mine was just serviced for $975. They kept it for more than three weeks and two days after I got it back it quit. Wouldn't wind, automatically or manually. Took another two weeks to get it right.
The Panerai is beautiful but with all its elegance I think it matches the Panamera or Cayenne better than the 911.

I have a stainless steel phobia. Why? I bought one and it turned out to be fake. The dealer couldn't believe that it was better looking than the original. It was an Italian fake.
I bought the blue face SS-gold thereafter. This was checked twice as authentic. Hahaha
The 2-tone is where I stop. The Presidential seems pretty blingy for me.

Where did you buy it from? Lots of fakes floating around, not just Rolexes, and some are really well made. No surprise, first thing the dealer does when you bring it in for service is to break out the magnifier. My dealer says they have customers bring fake watches in "with regularity" thinking they have the real thing.
