Is my car desirable?

Okay... this is like asking if my wife is cute, but I'm posting anyway. I am motivated to sell my 997, it's in excellent shape, and I think the price is VERY competitive. I've had a few calls from the PCA listing and Auto Trader, but nothing has panned out - I expected to sell this car quickly once I finally got my head around parting with it.

Am I off base here?

High mileage (relative to a 911) cars are harder to sell in general. To put things in perspective, you are asking for money that would buy a car with half that mileage in the 2006-2007 year range.

OP...I think youre at a nice starting point for negotiation on price. you cant go up. that said, I think your price is ok. Although not a fan of tan interior, I don't think it can get better, more classic than guards red with tan interior.

its the start of winter. its a 39k car trade in at the dealer,or LESS, but imo, seems to be right where it should be for a private sale for initial offering.

Are you offering the car on multiple avenues, or just one sales site?

GLWS.

Market is soft for these cars and with the cold winter approaching, your market pool just got reduced. I was able to sell my car at a very aggressive price because of the so many expensive upgrades and I didn't add those to the price, just made my car to sell faster and easier.

IMO, price is okay, maybe few K high for Boulder, CO. However like other says, price can go down not up.

Red/Tan interior combo is hard to sell, someone really has to like it.

What was the sticker price? u can use it as a guide point.

Trade her in for a TT

31K miles for an 8 years old Carrera considered as high mileage?

I had a 2006 4s for sale with lots of options including PSE, SSK, and full leather. Ended up trading it in for $43k. Had it for sale for $49,900 for a while and got tired of messing with it. Traded it in on 2 new cars, so the tax benefit made up for the delta. My car had 27k miles on it and was in like new condition. With that said, the dealer sold it in less than a week for $49,900.

Patrick/Joel/White Rock, I'm glad I started this thread. Helpful replies from you guys... I've "casually" had the car listed for sale all summer, but wasn't very serious about wanting to sell it. Now I'm expanding a business, and have decided it's time to simplify.

PLUS, I convinced my father to order his first Porsche: A Cayman GTS. That car is so damn good, it makes me realize there will be plenty of life after my 997!

White Rock, I'm in about the same boat as you. I'd still love to sell privately, but the local Audi dealer will give me $40K for it in trade for an S3, which would allow me to sell another car, and continue to have a little fun as well. Probably the route I'll go unless someone comes along.

Assuming the car is in good shape, the asking price is fine if the car was in California (based on prices I experienced when I was looking). No idea how much location and time of year changes the value.

After reading that you are willing to take 40k on trade, someone should be able to get a really good deal on a nice car.

Honest feedback - don't shoot the messenger! The price you started at was a little high compared to the market. I looked at it online in the spring and considered flying out to see it but it was priced higher than comparables. Didn't think you'd budge on price.

It's winter now so you're at a huge disadvantage for a 2wd car in colorado. Cut the price drastically now before you get more snow across the country or you'll be trading it in soon for $40k.

Only other option is to wait for spring. Just my 2 cents. Its a nice looking car.

Funny... I probably wouldn't have budged then! It's amazing how much emotions factor into these car decisions.

Good point on the photos. When I'm looking at photos of a car that I potentially want to buy I try to find very large photos that show a lot of detail... looking for the current degree of wear and tear. If the car has very few shots, I'll worry there is wear or damage they don't want me to see and will lean towards other cars with richer descriptions and more photos. The more information the better... things like original window stickers, state of service, tire wear, etc are a plus.

Thanks guys - good feedback. I have an auto trader ad with much more detail, but I can improve the post on 6speed quite a bit.

Amazingly, a friend of a friend is suddenly interested and it's looking promising. We'll see!

31k is high mileage on a car that's 8 years old? That's less than 4k miles a year.....(confused)
