Solution to a stuck oil filter canister

A lot of us have had an oil filter canister. When I changed my oil Friday my torque wrench broke and before I realized it I overtightened the oil filter canister. Tried to back it off and the the filter wrench flexed and went around the canister.

Replaced my torque wrench today and to get the oil canister off I put two small pieces of sandpaper inside my oil filter tool. Presto, came right off no problem.

Just thought I'd pass that on because I know how frustrating it can be to mess with a stuck filter.

Hope this helps someone

Don

Thanks for posting this Don... This is timely for me, as I just fitted the
LN engineering oil filter Adaptor and did away with the plastic housing and
oem paper filters, and onto a full filtration system that LN offers for our cars.

That's a nice suggestion with the sandpaper. Is your filter wrench a plastic or metal fluted unit? I have the metal high buck german one,but wont be needing it anymore as im now using standard steel cased oil filters.

How did your torque wrench break ?? I just sent mine in to MAC tools to be re-calibrated.
