Alpine iLX-007 install in 997.1
I am looking into doing similar.
I don't have steering wheel controls.
Would you have gone with a different head unit if it wasn't for the steering controls?
I also do want Bluetooth although don't want sat radio or need cd/DVD. They don't have it as an add on? CarPlay will eventually have a wireless connect option and use it currently in my GTI and its flawless and fine as far as sound quality for my weak ears.
I've never installed a stereo. Is this still a advisable for first timer? I don't know if I would have figured out any of the workarounds you did. Great informative post!

Sports chrono functions?
i just found this thread, so hopefully you are still monitoring. I too have a 997.1 with sports chrono and Bose. Firstly, does the Alpine unit maintain all of the PCM functions - sports chrono, various settings and memories, etc? Secondly, as it appears that most aftermarket head units are not compatible with Bose speakers and amps, how did you get this one to work? Or did you also replace all of the Bose components?
