997 vs 991
IMHO it is a bit like comparing apples to oranges. The 997 is more of a raw car, less refined and more sports car. The 991 is more refined and a bit more of a Grand Tourer.
Ideally, I would have one of each.

The more I look at the 991, i start to like it more. If I am in the market for a late 997.2 or early 991 with PDK. I absolutely would go for the 991 white C2S Cab PDK. Now that I already have 997.1TT manual, in a year or so, I would like to add a convertible for the open air experience.
As someone who has the pleasure of being around P-cars every single day - it really comes down to personal preference.
If you are content with your 997 (and many people should be!) enjoy it as it is meant to be enjoyed.
The 991 is a very different animal from anything before it. You can just feel it throughout the car. Almost like the 993 to 996 jump - and less like the 996 to 997 one.
We've got owners that come in who own both a 997 and 991 and are keeping both because the driving dynamics are indeed different between the two.

Come to think of it, it's like getting into a Panamera, which takes that scenario one step further...you know you're in a Porsche, it's bigger, smoother and quieter, but you can still drive it aggressively and especially in sport mode....
But still it's a sedan and just doesn't drive like the Carerra.
I been lucky enough to own three 997's, including my 2012 GTS that I kept for 3.5 years, which is longer than I have kept a car in a long time. I loved all three, especially the GTS. I recently traded for a 2015 991 GTS, and in my opinion, it is a better car. Not that the 997 is bad, but I think the changes made in the 991 chassis make the car handle better, and at the same time, make the car more stable and comfortable. I really can't think of any aspect where I think the 997 is better. But as I said, I loved my 997's and not saying it is a bad car, just that I think the 991 is better in about all aspects.
I have no regrets in making the move. The 991 is not as big as some seem to think. The wheelbase is 4 inches longer, but the car body is only about two inches longer. The 991 is definitely slanted more toward luxury then the 997, but it is far from just a GT/cruiser that some claim.
