Am I nuts? Trade in 2011 997.2 C4 for a 2005 Lambo Gallardo or 2014 Bentley CoNTI GT?

Appreciate the feedback. Will check out ferrarichat. Also can you elaborate on the Bentley comment? I've been reading reviews on all the car sites and watching YouTube videos and they all seem to like the Bentleys but of course not worth the price new. Was looking at 2013 or 2014 pre owned. But if they truly suck then I won't consider it just need to know what you mean by suck. I wa looking at S class 222 as an alternate but been reading many electrical issues need to be worked out. Thanks I'm advance.

10 year old Lambo while cool is still 10 years old and we are now in the era of cheap power. 500hp in 2005 was exotic. Not anymore. A brand new Ford Shelby gt350 or Chevy Camaro Z28 will have more power and better performance than the Lambo. And you may even get money back on the 911 trade in!
Thanks for the feedback. Definitely more sensible for the cars you mentioned but there's something about an exotic that Has always inspired me growing up.

That's what I was hoping (or not) to hear. Puts things in perspective.

Good luck.
Thanks for keeping me honest. You're right it's the FF that's AWD.

Haha I think I'm leaning that way (not to do it). So much great input here. For those that say you only live once I agree as well. An extra $100k down would wipe a bunch of savings (not 401k of course) that would be replenished eventually but I do have a family to think about as well. Ugh terrible to act like an adult ha

You will need a daily car if you own an exotic. If that is a deal breaker than don't do it

My gallardo has been as reliable as my 996. I could even argue it is better bc of the RMS issue with 996. Also, gallardo is diy friendly if you are a shade tree mechanic. You actually don't need to take it to the dealer so finding an indept shop is a very good option if you don't wrench

Simply put, gallardo is more reliable than Ferrari 360 and 430 bc of German engineering. Parts are cheaper too and some share w Audi.

Performance, it will not be as fast as a 458, Huracan, gtr. But gallardo sounds orgasmic as a true exotic should. It gets more attn than a 458.

If you only keep it for a year, u would advice joining an exotic partial ownership club instead. It is cheaper and you can sample other cars too
Extremely helpful thanks for the input! I did install the SSK and x-pipe myself along with oil changes but not comfortable doing anything more than that. And the MDX is the daily for me while 997 is the occSsional 1-2 days/week. Not too concerned about performance as much as the amazing exhaust sound.
Great idea with the partial ownership but I haven't found any good ones in this Area.

A Bentley is nothing more than a fancy A8 with more hey look at me I have money and I own a car to help my poor self esteem. I would take to new S class coupe or sedan over a Bentley any day or a Panamera Turbo. It says you live in Boston and you want to drive a car with less than 3" of ground clearance year round. Perhaps you live in that one part that gets no snow or potholes big enough to rip your very expensive exotic car suspension to pieces. I have owned over 430 cars (I have 7 now) in the last 25 years and give lots of car buying advise. The first thing I tell people is buy a car for the lifestyle you live not the other way around. I do not know you so I mean no offence but you learn nothing about ownership from Youtube videos. Owning cars that cost close to 300K (regardless of what you pay for them) puts you in a different class and that class is the type that thinks nothing about 5 figure repair bills or the loss they take on a car just because they want the next best thing. Funny thing after all the Ferrari's Lamborghini's Maserati's etc I have owned I have the most fun these days in the modified Abarth a car I bought new for over 9K of sticker. The exotics are gone (I have had my full of them) Porsche #39 and 40 are still with me. I hate to break it to you but it took me a while to understand that I enjoyed the feeling I got from saying I owned an exotic car more than I got from driving it. You see those cars are no fun when driven the way you need to as a commuter car they need to be pushed to be enjoyed and I do not have a track in my backyard. Funny thing the male ego, mine cost me a whole hell of a lot of money before I grew up enough to keep it under control.

Speaking to the F-430... I have a friend with one, and he is NOT a car guy whatsoever. So little, he drives it around in the winter on summer tires, carbon brakes, and $25k polished HRE's....in the salt.

That cars been keyed several times, spit on at stop lights, towed as he illegally parks non stop, and ran into by cyclists who just plain don't like the
stigma which attaches itself to such a car, and from what ive seen... MANY drivers/owners of the exotic breeds alike.

Oh, I forgot to add...pulled over ....constantly. in traffic court monthly.

And he originally wanted a Lambo, but settled for Italian...for the 2nd time.

my .02 observations in a few areas of ownership from a friends perspective.
He asks for what he gets though. If I were a city dweller...living in a major city... I wouldn't get an exotic. out in the country... I wouldn't either, but id fell better about the car not being near others.

Good luck with your options out there.

You're nuts

Only because you are asking others for permission to do what you want to do.

forget the advice and go with your heart. Sure the 2005 gallardo is "only" 500hp but I guarantee you will never taste the full power unless you are a ***** of steel track racer. So buying a newer Shelby with 600hp isn't going to amount to much.

You clearly like the attention these cars give you and you clearly want the attention the gallardo brings. So buy the car. You are clearly no longer feeling the porsche so flip the car. It's really very simple. In a year, if you are no longer feeling the gallardo then flip it for the Bentley. Don't go buy any stupid Mercedes. You definitely will not get the attention you seek in a bloody Mercedes.

If you still like the Gallardo after a year then keep it and then buy that high end Hyundai (cant remember the name). They are just as luxurious as the Mercedes for half the price. Your family will be very comfortable in the car albeit with zero attention and slightly less comfy than the Bentley. But comfy all the same. Now anytime anyone accuses you of not being reasonable with your car purchases you point to the Hyundai.

And please stop this silly talk about loosing value on a car. If you want to drive and enjoy a car it is guaranteed to lose value. The only cars keeping their value or appreciating are garage queens.

Entertaining thread and interesting perspectives on exotics.
Got a 2011 C4 and want an upgrade? Get a 2011 turbo s. It'll smoke all those exotics, has four wheel drive and is a total joy to drive summer or winter. Can't believe it wasn't already suggested.

You are right but the gentleman wants bling. Gallardo blings more than porsche.
End of story
