One little thing I learned from changing plugs in the F150 which are NOTORIOUS for snapping...

Tighten before loosening. PB Blaster helps.. But yeah, before I go to loosen the plugs, I give a quick 1/8 turn or so to tighten, then I loosen them. If I start to feel any resistance I tighten again and loosen.

Back and forth like a tap cutting threads. This helps to release dirt and grit.

I did this with mine diligently. Still got a lot of creaking noise. Yet the plugs and threads looked fine once they were out. And the new plugs went in fine.

I mentioned this on another a Forum and was told it is very normal. Still doesn't feel good though!

But, then again, I do my own maintenance.

And, the years for me is useless, as I drive my car. So I have always hit miles.

New or used, maintenance on high performance cars (Porsches, ferraris, etc) are constant and high. Heck, I think it even goes higher. Forgetting this, which I myself do sometimes, will ensure that your budget will subsequently not match your toy's affordability.

I think we also heard the saying, "Never ask the price and MPG when buying a Ferrari for if you do, it means you may not be able to afford it"

We all wanted to date the high maintenance prom queen --- let's be prepared for it.

my 07 C2S with 38K miles, car run great...went in for quick check up on coolant system, Porsche AD recommended spark plugs change along with the coil pack since few are showing cracks.

Replaced both items, the difference is so noticeable. Just in-time for the FVD headers/cats upgrade.

Glad i did it...

Good thread...lot of good comments here.
Well, I decided to take a peek at my 08's plugs at 38K, and decided to change both plugs AND coils at same time as to just baseline the cars maintenance schedule...(I do my own work).

I didn't experience any noises while backing out the plugs.

Am I reading $1-1.5K correctly for spark plug changes? crazy!
its a 4 hour job if you've never done it before, or aren't very experienced wrench. Did all mine in ~3 hours.

Some of my other vehicles call for plugs at 100K miles, but I did mine on time,... not miles. I find it give the owner a good excuse to check out other areas near by to check on the rest of the vehicles potential maintenance issues which can come up.

Maintenance is also a hobby of mine, and I find enjoyment in it.

I think the $1,000+ was for plugs and other services. I inquired, indirectly, but no clarifications so far.

I , like you, enjoy doing most work on my cars too.
It s amazing that you did your plugs in 3 hours. Did you remove mufflers, and bumper? It took me twice that and I only removed the exhaust and wheels. Still worth the time. Wonder if the 08 is easier than the DFI 09?
Dealers tell me they remove the bumper too and it makes it faster.

Mark... I did not remove the rear bumper. I simply dropped the 2 cans, and rear wheels, and performed the service. The driver side is the most difficult with the furthest most inward coil being a pain to remove.

So yes, 3 hours is obtainable.

I also have a lift in my home garage/workshop which is a help to my old bones.

Good job then.
Here s how I had to do mine. At a days work it is still worth it in my book. The pic reminded me too, no wheels off. My old bones on back, LOL.
