Do 20 inch rims result in a bumpier ride versus 19's

I'm considering 20" rims for summer and wonder about a bumpier ride vs. my 19" turbo II's.
For those of you with 20" rims, is that the case? Is the handling/ steering noticeably different/ improved?
I'm guessing the looks are better...
20" is common on the 991's , but less so on the 997's

Yes, it will generally be a harsher ride.

I used to like to run larger wheels with shorter sidewalls, but I finally just got sick of it. It is not just the harsher ride, they are heavier in general, so the suspension is less well damped and braking and acceleration is effected.

But the biggest issue was the increased occurrences of wheel and tire damage. It happened often enough that it started to become a concern.

On a 997, I would go max 19s myself, in lightweight forged construction. I like the look better with more tire personally.

But, nothing wrong with trying the 20s out. Just an FYI, they are harder to sell if you dont like them. So maybe try to find a cheap set used to see if you like them.

It depends on the tires, my 20"s with PS2 is a lot smoother and quieter than my 19"s on Nittos. My 20"s is also lighter than the OEM wheels. Looks great with 20"s, get the lightest wheels you can afford, wrapped in Michellin PSS and you'll be fine with the rid3.

Thanks! Roads are a lot crappier in these parts so that makes sense...also agree that the forged rims are the way to go as I've had the Champion RS 97's in the past... Likely will be some differences of opinion here from those happy with their20's...

I had a brand new set of forged 20s up for sale for the longest time. Finally sold a few months ago. They were ultra lightweight for the size. The 20x8.5 came in at 19 pounds, and the 20x12 at 24! Those would have been perfect for you!

I never had them on the car, so I can't say how the ride was on a 997.

My experience is coming from heavier Audi sports sedans (like the C5 S6 which is over 4000 pounds). So maybe on the 997, as Ynot pointed out, the same problems I outlined are not an issue, due to the lighter vehicle weight and distribution.

On my v10 S6, I am planning to run 20s again with a 275/30/20 all around. So, take what I said earlier with a grain of salt.

Always best to hear from someone (like Ynot) with first hand experience.
