997 or 997 TT
997 or 997 TT
Guys - I am at a crossroads and could really use some guidance ...
Just sold my Aston Martin and looking for the next ride....
Would like a reliable weekend car that I could use on the track or various driving events maybe once a month or so....
Would you suggest a C2S, C4S or spend some more and get a 2007-2009 TT ...
If I purchased the NA models I would probably add turbo or supercharger ..
My friend just built a Boxer with the TPC turbo and its a beast ...
TT = 75k
NA = +/- 40k plus 15k for turbo ???
My thoughts are that beating up a less expensive car may be more appealing to me....
Very early in my planning so please forgive my naiveté
Thanks

If you're fixating on getting a turbo on 997S, I would get 997TT from the start and no worry about the headache of adding turbo. Since you mention less money with 997S, I would look for a higher mileage 997TT >60k mikes for mid to low $60k. Personally I wouldn't just add turbo to my NA 997 without adding aero kit for downforce.
That's an easy choice. 997TT. You'll probably end up spending around the same amount of money if you plan on doing all that to a C2S. So might as well get the turbo and save yourself the headache.
As others have stated, you are better off going the straight TT route. These engines are designed for the compression, heat, stress, etc. that the turbos generate.
While I am sure that many people have had success adding aftermarket FI to their NA cars, I would not take the chance.
My two cents.

I have an aftermarket turbo but if I was going to start new. I would just get a 997TT, I've seen a few in the 60's. Metzger engine can handle a lot more hp if you want it. If you already have a C2/C4 then I wouldn't hesitate to recommend TPC, mine has been installed since Oct 2009 and haven't had a problem since.

I bought a 2006 CS and supercharged it. only about $13k into the supercharger ($7k in to the rest of the mods). tons of power and cheaper. price points are lower so I'm not afraid to drive the **** out of it. if money was no issue I would have bought the TT though. but I don't have $80k to drop (and I'm not in love with how TT looks). my 2 cents.
Short story: two years ago I bought a Subaru BRZ, dumped a ton of money modifying it including a supercharger kit. When I made the mistake of adding up all the receipts and realized what I had spent on it, I immediately put it back to stock and traded it for a 997S. I figured I could get the same 355hp from the factory in the 911 and have a better, more balanced car attached to it.
I highly recommend going with the 997TT if you want to have a turbo car. Much easier to get it from the factory. I'm sure by the time you finish modding a C2S or C4S with an aftermarket turbo and all the ancillaries you won't be far off from the cost of a Turbo. The only thing different will be the Turbo will still be worth $75-95k and the modified C2S/C4S will be worth $40-50k (or less)...
Or you could spend $40-50k on a 996TT; nothing wrong with going that route, either!

I humbly submit that a highly modified C2S will be significantly cheaper than a TT (assuming same year and same mileage). I modified mine to the hilt for $60k and a comparable TT was $90k. Granted I doubt mine will retail for as much as I have in it but the mod route will be cheaper. If you have $90k by all means get the TT. Looking back I would probably go the non-mod route if I had to do it all over again. But it was a fun learning experience and I have tons of performance for a reduced rate.
It sounds like you plan on tracking it enough to throw the GT3 into the equation. I've done a lot of modding to my C2S, but I know it would be a mistake to try to make it something that it's not. If you want or need the power of a turbo, as others have said, buy a turbo. You'll have a much better chance of recovering value when it's time to part with it, than if you add mods. When I spend $ on a mod, I don't expect to ever see it again. That's fine. It's just the premium I pay for a little extra enjoyment, not because it adds any real value to my car. Get the car that already suits your needs best, then have some fun tweaking it.
If you want to build a track car, that's a whole different story.
