broken air vents

I have a 997 and two of the interior air vents have broken sliders... these are the sliders that adjust the airflow left/right. The local dealer quoted me $800 in labor to fix this!! Insane.

Both slider parts fell out but I still have them. I might be able to put them back in somehow, maybe with some strong tweezers, a lot of patience and the right technique. Is there a guide somewhere on how to do this? I search on the forum awhile back but didn't see what I was looking for, though my search skills are not always the best... and also searched youtube for a video without any luck. It can't be that hard!

I had the problem where the fins were misaligned with each other.
If memory serves, there's a little metal pin in the middle.
I pulled in town just a touch with a dental probe and it releases.
The just pull gently straight out.

My far left vent slider also came apart. I have the pieces but don't see how there's a fix without removing the vent from the dash.
I've just left it alone for now but would also like to know if there's a DIY for this.

See post #7 here. Should help you with the replacement.

Thanks for the link. Just went out to try it on my side vent and found mine (997.2) to be different.
There are actually two tabs on top. These are visible by shining a light in there. You need to grab both together and pull down. This will release the vent. Also, check the side of the vent against the door as there's a chance the weatherstripping might be holding it as well.
Wasn't too difficult getting it out. Replacing the slider however is a whole different matter. Gave up on that for now as it became too frustrating.
