Oil Suggestions for a race day?
I may be doing my first race day and have an upcoming oil change, wanted to see if there is a consensus of which oil is best for a hot race day? Porsche recommends SAE 0w-40, 5w-40, and 5w-50. Is any one of these better than the other?
5w40 motul excess or 5w50 mobile 1. Both porsche approved, both have good shear properties. ow40 will shear out of grade quicker than the others. If you are using lower oil change intervals (ie. changing oil frequently) it doesn't matter much. Ow40 was designed to be good all around, protects CATS and helps fuel efficiency supposedly.
5w50 mobile 1 was debated as THE track oil, along with 5w40 motul excess.
Whatever oil you use just change it before + after if you want the perfect protection for your engine.

Motul makes a pure racing oil, big bucks, one time use, 300v or the like. Otherwise just do as Alex says. I assume you are not doing Lemans so I wouldn't worry about it over and above that.
