Is TT really necessary?
The best thing about the TT is boost when you just want to pass someone ahead, I love the boost kicked in from 0-70 as I stop waiting for open lane on the freeway on ramp "priceless". You already asking the question about TT and insurance, I suggest you test drive it because it is now hanging on your head every time you see a TT
Best thing is to test drive one, which I planned doing in 2016. If end up buying one, the goal is to go fast...in 1/2 mile event or whatever opportunity present.
I always love the TT look, and sure the boost is very addictive. Passing someone ahead with the C2S isn't really an issue, but a Turbo is a Turbo.

I've owned a normally aspirated 911 and a turbocharged 911. Either of them can get you into trouble very quickly if you are careless. Both are very fun to drive. There's no wrong decision here, each car offers different things.
The comments that you can't use the power of the turbo and that you can't enjoy everything that it offers on a public road are nonsense. The same thing is true of all 911s, and all high-performance sports cars. I find opportunities every time that I drive my turbo to feel the rush of the boost without violating the law. You don't have to run it to redline through all six gears to enjoy it.
Back to the original question: "Is TT really necessary?" No, it's not. But a 911 isn't necessary either. You either want a TT, or you don't. The question of it being necessary or not doesn't make sense.

Well said.
Dennis perspective of a plain Jane 911 isn't necessary...I tend to agreed...but to a certain degree. Really if that logic is valid then any type of passenger vehicle isn't necessary.
Most folks in NYC has no car and still able to get around.
About want it or not...that I agreed! I want one, therefore it is necessary

I will get slam on this thread...ahh maybe.
My automotive background is raw HP and more HP, had few to attest.
The Porsche Turbo is absolute my must have car...but every time i took my C2S out...always come back with question "is the Turbo really needed?". Yeah...the C2S has few mods, OEM ceramic brakes, GT2 CF seats, Aerokit, GT3 TB&plenum, X51 airbox, FDV exhaust (No tune). I don't know what RWHP it put out, but she screaming fast.
The hair is plenty grey, but not my driving. Really, how fast is a 997.1&2?Turbo? A test drive wouldn't satisfy my curiosity, doubt the dealer would let me drive it on George Bush turn pike at 4 am in the morning
Why do Carrera owners upgrade to a Turbo?
Thank you in advance...
TP

I suggest you just head up to Porsche of Plano and ask for Colin in sales. He will let you drive whatever car you want. I bought my turbo from him and I drove tons of cars before purchasing it. 991 S, GTS. Cayman, S, GTS. Boxster, S, GTS. GT3, GTRS. My turbo and then 991 Turbo and Turbo S. I even drove all the macan and cayenne varients just for the hell of it. Trust me, they like to ride in these cars as much as we do, but I was allowed to rip down the tollway on my own with each one.

With that said, I still want your seats if you get rid of your car.
Necessary - No
Desirable - Absolutely
Addictive - Yes
Functional - Surprisingly Yes
Like many, I initially wanted at a C4S cab (test drove a few), on a whim I test drove a TT and it was a wrap! Bought a TTS within weeks. I would like to say that it was the boost/acceleration that did it but honestly what sealed it for me was that one can drive a TTS like a C4S anytime (especially with PDK) however one cannot drive a C4S like a TT! The TT offers unmatched versatility, serene when you want it and viscerally bonkers in a heartbeat!
What many haven't opined on, is ECU tuning! For a song, you can further unleash HP/TQ, making a very fast car ridiculously insane! Don't let anyone kid you, you get to enjoy that power a lot more than you think on public streets, mostly highways really (just be smart about when/where you throttle down)!
It's not ego nor youthful exuberance, its about an experience. The TT simply offers an experience that a NA 997 simply cannot replicate...there's a reason folks are advised not to test drive a TT when shopping for a Carrera.

I've had both, a base 911 carrera ('06) and a 911 tt ('08). Both cars were manual and stock (no power mods).
While the base was all great and fun - it was a lot of work to rev the car out and get the power out of it. It felt very high strung at all times. The car always felt under-powered to me as well (Ive driven a few S variants and those were a nudge better).
After I picked up a turbo - I felt like THIS is what ALL 911s should just be like. Tame and reserved under normal / daily sedate driving but an absolute beast and a MARVEL of engineering if you start to push it. The torque was VERY useful for daily driving as well (much more street usable to me over the base). The turbo and base 911 were almost like two completely different cars.
I recently sold my turbo and believe the 997tt version is one of the best all around supercars that brings so much to the table.
The two things that I did enjoy more in the base was the lighter steering and better engine / exhaust note.

LOL! If the 997.2 Turbo I'm buying has seats with all the bells and whistles, the GT2 CF seats up for grab & you're first in line. My wife hated those seats
However if the DOW don't pickup the Turbo will have to wait

LOL - the Dow won't go up anytime soon, China economy health look grim and plunging into the darkness with no light at the end of the tunnel. Might as well buy it now before the Dow get worse
I never had the opportunity to drive a porsche turbo. I previously had a lotus esprit, 4 cyl. turbo. Once you got to 3d gear, and got past brief turbo lag, the car was monster fast. The lotus handled beautifully also. My C4s seems as fast when in sport mode! In sport mode, extremely responsive and handles better. I haven't taken the porsche to top speed yet, but I will. I did with the lotus, and the car really sucked down on the road past 150 mph, was a great handling car.
Well, my Ducati died. Three years old on a bike with a two year warranty, the crankshaft snapped while starting, and long story short, bits of crank are all through the motor now. Ducati won't help in any useful way. So I'll fix it, sell it on, and give bikes a break for a while. I like cars better honestly. I'll do more track events (arrive and drive for now) and see where things go in a few years.
I had an order in for a new C2S. Without the bike in the picture, I decided to change the order. I'll be getting a new TT in December. We'll see if it's a lot more fun than my 997 GTS!
