Yes I have a 2012 997.2 that I bought in Nov 2011. I think dealer got it the end of June 2011. This is a common thing for Porsche.
It has to do with when they change models and what US law requires for labeling a cars year. It has been going on for many years and is sort of confusing. So my title says that my 997.2 is a 2012. I live in MN and I don't think where you live in the U.S. makes any difference. The Monroney sticker (window sticker) that comes with the car when new is the U.S. legal document that defines the car and equipment.

I have one of those MY2012 997.2's. I thought hey, Porsche has had since '09 to perfect this car. Car spent 3 months in the shop, and eventually got a replacement motor. Go figure.

Yes they started 991 production mid year. My father had a 2012 992 cabriolet that was an early purchase.

Mine has been perfect. Bought it new with 200 miles on the OD dealer had had it for a couple of months. I run the heck out of it. Red lined it the first day I got it. Doesn't burn any oil at all. The battery did fail the other day 2 days before the warranty ran out. It wasn't covered , I knew that but asked anyway. Got a new AGM from Batteries Plus all is good again. Had to reset some error messages with my Durametric so air bag light would go off.
A common thing to happen after dead battery.
