I'm not a huge fan of the lobsters, but they are with me for at least a while longer... I have used Plastidip in the past, but only for matte black and I knew I didn't want to go that route. Instead I decided to give the new Autodip (not associated) a try for the difference in material, vinyl-based instead of rubber, and metallic/glossy versus matte.
Here's the finished product, thoughts? (I swear it is the same car, difference in a sunny summer day and overcast winter day)
I have used Plastidip in the past and it was very durable even after 18 months. This is my first implementation with Autodip and so far it is holding up extremely well. The only precaution I take is not using a bristled brush on any part of the rim and just stick with the wheelwoolie or glove.
Hi Stavros.
You did a great job. They look awesome.
I too have the Lobster forks that are need of some touch up. Just enquired at the dealership and they quoted me $125 per rim.
Where can I get that Autodip product? How much of a color selection do they have?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
No need to sell yourself short. Lobster claw wheels are my favorite for the 997. If I had a turbo I would swap out the turbo wheels for lobster claws. Nice work on the dip
@pak6698 - check out http://www.us.autodip.com/ and then on YouTube for plenty of DIY videos. I removed the wheels and did a proper scrubbing/cleaning first. I watched Larry from AmmoNYC, also on YouTube, do a winter wheel cleaning.
@OEkun1 - totally agree, but I could not make myself spray over the Porsche crest.
I think they look better in their OEM color. Also, another perspective when the car is lowered and their pushed out near flush with spacers. I'm running 15mm on all corners and I love the look.
I am, however, looking at aftermarket wheels but I'm in no hurry and without a doubt I'd keep my set as a spare.
