Good point mehrabani...the 911 just got a facelift in MY02 and getting another one in MY 05 sounds fishy to me (it would **** off a lot of owners!!)...could it be that the 997 is the next boxster and the 998 os the next 911??
This would make more sense as the boxster came out two years prior to the 996...

From what I can see in that tangled mess, that looks to be more similar to the 996 cab than to the 986. Just look at the raised rear "spoiler" / deck lid. The Boxster's got a trunk back there, and this wreck looks to completely lack the pronounced fenders of the Boxster.

Here's a closer look at the pics. Note the "997 sport seats" in the frontal view. You also get a cleaner look at the newer styled ovoid headlights!

It is hard to tell the difference between a 997 spy shot and a Boxster spy shot. I still think that this may be the next boxster.

Here is a boxster spy shot, if you did not know any better, you would think it is a 997 spy shot.
