Hardtop hoist, worth it?

Have a hardtop for my 997, I used to live in Chicago so in November it would go on and stay there until end of March, now in Georgia the weather is so mild I haven't put it on at all, The main reason is that I don't have a hoist and it's a problem to put it on on the cold days and take it off with ease and by myself, i'm thinking of hoist that can lower the hardtop from my garage roof would probably aid in this, anyone has one of these? Is it worth it?

When I had my 996 cab I made a hoist using a small electric cable hoist and a couple of nylon ratchet straps. The hoist was good for about 200 lbs. I anchored the hoist to the ceiling of my garage and it made the removal/installation of the hardtop really easy. I think I paid about $100 Cdn for the hoist on sale - you can likely get one from Harbor Freight.
I've put a link in for the one I bought.

I considered buying a hard top when I bought my 997 cabriolet. I never did. I drive my car with the top down at least one day in every month of the year. If I were you, I'd sell the hard top!

Now that's a whole different issue. I never drove my Cab in the winter so I would put the top on in November when I put the car away and take it off in the spring when I got the car out. My current car is a coupe and I drive it year round but if I had a Cab I'd definitely use it in the winter with the hardtop.
I do see guys around here driving Cabs in the snow with thir cloth tops - I often wonder what they look like in the spring.

Ive been tempted to purchase a hard top hoist, but just used to store them in storage either at my house or office building.

Im with Dennis on this one....id probably sell it, or store it until you sell the car. Guys I know that own verts, are their 3rd,4th,5th, 10th car, so a hard top isn't even a concearn to them, and really more of a bother to keep worrying about keeping around, and don't look great on anyways.

On another note OT.... in all honesty, hows Georgia compared to Chicago living wise for you?

I had a hoist for my Jeep and an older Merc and could not have survived with out it. It made for easy storage, would leave hanging during months not being used, and made putting on and taking off a breeze. The Merc was in CA and the Jeep in Chicago.

well, I didn't live downtown, otherwise I would probably miss Chicago a bit more, but a suburb is a suburb in my eyes, and Georgia has quite lower taxes (illinois's property tax is out of control) and of course a lot better weather, plus it helps that I have a lot larger group of friends here, so for me the change has been a very positive one in all aspects, would not move back to Illinois, Taxes alone would keep me out (2015 property tax was 11k, Georgia same value home would be 3k).
