Stipped Headlamp Bar

Stipped Headlamp Bar
Can anyone suggest how to get my one 997.1 headlamp out when the tool does not catch and the rod that turns seems to be stripped? My other side catches fine and can pop the light out.
I really need to change out the dead bulb asap.

When I had to remove mine ages ago, I remember that I kept thinking that the tool was engaged and was afraid something was wrong when it wouldn't release. It finally turned out that I just didn't have it inserted that last little bit. After a bit of fiddling around it finally sank in about a quarter inch deeper and worked.
Are you SURE that you have it inserted fully? You should be able to take a flashlight and look deep in there to see if it is stripped.

Be careful:
- one the driver side of the car, you need to unscrew in the normal way (counter clock-wise)
- On the passenger side, you need to screw clockwise to free the headlight unit.
