Creaking and squeaking suspension
Creaking and squeaking suspension
My 2009 C4S with 83K miles today developed a noticeable squeak and creak noise when I push down on the driver front fender and when I turn the wheel to the left. It also makes the noise when go over bumps. I don't hear the noise on the right side. The car drove fine without vibration on the freeway, and I had use both normal and sport suspension setting. Does anyone know what this could be? TIA.

Stock suspension? Are you lowered on either aftermarket springs or coilovers?
Creaking suspension could be anything from shocks, springs, spring hats, lower control arms, thrust control arms, sway bars, tie rods or drop links. I'd start with a visual inspection - pull the wheel and look for anything loose or broken. Also visually inspect for leaks of the shocks and lower control arm bushings (they're hydraulically damped). Next would be having a helper turn the steering while you inspect. Be sure the car is raised safely - either on ramps with weight on the wheels or jack stands at the jacking points. I'd avoid being under the car while turning the wheel, especially if it's on ramps.

The suspension is stock. I took the wheel off last night and didn't see anything loose, broken or unusual. My car is normally dealer service but I wonder if this can be dealt with by my trusty local mechanic. I have done minor maintenance on my cars but never work on suspension components.

Dealer had the car over a day, check it inside out and couldn't find any faulty components or noticeable noise after multiple test drives. The tech did tell me stop using WD40! LOL. He suspect some loose stones got into components and caused the creaky noise. The dealer release my car and didn't charge me anything, and even got a free wash. I love that service dept. and never do unnecessary work.
