Been a lurker for a few months now. After a year of searching for the specific 911 for me within my budget, I found my Carrera. Specific Wants (why it took a while)
- Guards Red
- 4CS, had to coupe & S
- Manual
- Black Interior
- Immaculate Condition
During all my searching I noticed some painted interior parts I liked and some I did not like. I loved the look of painted backseats and console. Mine had the backseats. Time for my first mod. Finally got it done, just got her back from the console install. I feel for me it gives the interior a nice flow without being overly busy looking. Damn, love me some Guards Red!
Thanks for having me, look forward to being a more active part of the community!
Thanks Sleek996! Attached are some fresh pics per request. Growing up since knee high I always wanted the classic whale tail Guards Red manual 87'-89'. If the wife would have let me buy it when I wanted to would of great. But air-cooled all the rage and triple + price since I looked at them two years ago. Figured I would go for a newer version of my knee high kid dream car.
Do you mind sharing the paint process and kind of paint? Was it difficult to remove the center console?
Or if you had it done professionally how much was it?
Thanks
I did all 3 pieces (ashtray was included) for $915 via Bumper Plugs and $365 installed from Porsche. It is OEM, so Porsche will install. If I got all 3 pieces + ash cost (was I ncluded from BP) from Porsche installed would have been pushing 4K.
Looks great. I've never had a painted console (CF in one and Macassar wood in the other) so I'm wondering ifvit might not be a bad idea to have it vinyl clear wrapped (like xpel hood film) to keep it from getting scratched and knicked up from rings, and general use. Also, make sure the fuzzy velcro is on the backside of the seatbelt buckles (if not, add some) so that when you move the seats, the buckles don't scratch the sides. If you're not going tovwrap it, maybe wax it at least to make it slippery.
Looks like a really nice car. You can also always add body parts to make the car look the way you want - we did a TT rear decklid conversion on my wife's 997 with functioning active Aero upper wing, but I don't think I've seen a tea-tray or Taco style wing foe a 997 that looks like the older cars - a bunch of people have done ducktails too.

Anyway, congratulations.
Appreciate the detailed response. I do have the "fuzzy velcro", good idea to add more. As far as protection like a clear bra, probably great idea that I will not do ;-) The standing rule of being in car for mom & kids is No Touching Red, especially in back seats. Now mom is getting the same treatment. LOL.
Got
I have some other mod thoughts to your point. Currently content....shall see. Thanks!
It's difficult for kids in the back seat to not hit the bottom of the hardback seats with their shoes. On mine, I created a template from the seat back and attached some carbon fiber vinyl to that section under the curve. Now if the vinyl gets messed up, I just replace it, but it keeps the seats themselves looking like new. Liked the idea so much, I did a full wrap on the 997 adaptive seats I put into my 928 Spyder.

Well done! My understanding is Bumper Plugs uses more clear coat than OEM (are OEM parts) and should be more durable. Of course crap happens. I the way I drive is generally elbow on arm rest, hand on stick. Not touching red, sticking with the theme of my car. LOL.
Sounds like you're good then. Don't drive with your hand resting on the shifter though - bad for the transmission.
Enjoy!
