Sport shifter- yes or no?

Feedback please. Does the shifter have a long throw? I like the stock shifter in the GT3, hated it in the TT, which is stock in 997 more like?

The sports shifter (SS) in the 997 reduces the throw by around 20%, which is not bad. I have it, and I love it.

If you like the stock shifter in the GT3, you may want to look at the B&M race shifter for the 997. It's even shorter (I think 40% reduction).

Yea, I really liked the way the sport shifter shifted and felt, I would say the shifter is probably more like that of a GT3, as even the non-sport shifter in the 997 is much tighter than the 996 TT's.

Paul,
I have the sport shifter in my 997. I have felt better, and I have felt much worse. I'd recommend it over the non-sport for sure.

It is a toss up. My car came with the stock shifter. I installed the short shifter earlier this year and I got tired of having to fight first gear. Everything else was great. I recently took it back out to see whether I would miss it. If first gear was not extremely notchy, I probably would of left it in.

u have to try it Paul. u probably have more track experience than anyone here & u know the smoothness is more important than shorter throw. i sat in few 997s with & without SSK. some smooth some notchy. the smooth ones felt soild but i hated the ones that have problems getting into gear.

I went from an '05 GT3 to my '06 997S with the short shifter and I am very pleased with it.

Paul its a toss, Arling is right on some that 1st gear is notchy...GT3 is always been the best comapred to all 996/997 cars...I had one in my last 996 and loved it, doing it all over I would go factory which is just like top mount style B&M....

Just a follow-up, I went to the dealer and tried the regular shifter on an C2S, loved it. I'll bet the SS is great but the regular shifter is just right for me. WAAAAYYY better than the 996 TT shifter.
