I found a solution. My glove compartment can partially close (and stay closed) without engaging the sensor. This will give me a loose compartment handle, but it doesn't rattle. And it solves my issue with getting the horn to sound.

Besides, the horn sound upon lock is very soft in volume and only uses the higher pitched horn which is more pleasant to the ear and not obnoxious at all.
The alarm actually has its own horn...near the brake master cylinder. Open the hood, arm the car and you'll hear the location when it honks to indicate the hood is open. I wouldn't characterize the sound as "soft" but we all have different levels of acceptable sound pollution.

Did not know that! OK, "softer" than most alarm chirps

No, not on all cars or markets.

Agreed. So tacky.

Plus looking back at your beautiful car blinking "good-bye" at you is the best.

What's more tacky? The common (for most other cars) audible indication your car is locked? Or people watching you stare at your car?

I bought the remotekey (mods4cars) for this reason. I would lock it but couldn't hear the locks work and would constantly double check. I put it on the chirp only with lock, its not loud or obtrusive to me. Plus the one touch up for passenger window is nice but it is only from the drivers side. Biggest thing I like now is auto windows up/down from the remote. Real nice to help air out the car or use it to put something in the passenger side before getting in.

You can have it use the horn or the alarm. Horn is much quieter than the alarm.

With a Durametric, you can code everything you just described except the horn chirp, without needing to purchase that module - I've done it in both my 997s.

Enabling the "comfort windows" feature makes a long hold of the key remote when unlocking the car power the windows down and a long hold when locking the car power the windows up. Passenger window goes up all the way if you just hold the up button on the driver's door for about half a second then let go.

^Sweet. I got a Durametric Enthusiast in transit now. I've solved my issue with the audible lock indicator using the glove box trick

Unfortunately, you need the Pro version to do options Coding.

LOL! Turning off the maintenance light alone was worth it anyway. What does the Enthusiasts version do besides that?

Enthusiast can read and clear codes, and read the DME overrevs. It can also reset the airbag light which other readers cannot do. Enthusiast is tied to a VIN, 3 VIN's max. Used ones come up for sale from time to time in the marketplace.

The Pro version does everything the enthusiast version can do, is more expensive, has unlimited VIN's, and enables coding features. I've used it to control the comfort windows and to disable the rear spoiler when I swapped to a fixed wing.

Have had this in my car almost as long I have had the car. Works great. I like the horn confirmation - some don't - no big deal.
