PCM2.1 and Software 4.0 - MP3 issues

PCM2.1 and Software 4.0 - MP3 issues
HI there
****UPDATE Since posted this I have established that it will play 192kbs eps and not 320kbs .... is that correct ? a maximum of 192kbs ? ****
My 997 c4s with PCM 2.1 and s/w 4.0 has no problems playing audio ads I burn on cd-r but will not play an mp3 CD
it shows all the file names and folders ; but no file will play - it always says read error
I have tried every combination of file formats etc it just wont play ball !!
Does anyone have any idea ?
