Electronic Issue - screen flashing off then on

Gents,

For about a year now on my 2009 997, I've had an occasional glitch - it's happened now 4-5 times where while driving the car, the screen for the radio display will go completely black, the Porsche logo will come back on and then the screen works fine again. All screens work no problem...radio, trip, info, cd player, disc/ipod etc.

Initially I thought this might be a sign of a bad battery, and indeed I replaced the original one now about 2 months ago. Today on a 500 mile weekend trip, the screen went black twice...both times while on a bumpy road.

That got me wondering whether or not something is loose in the back of the head unit.

Anyone else experience something similar...and were you able to identify the root cause?

Thanks!

There were some Cayenne guys with this problem where the sofware for the PCM got corrupted and would cause an occasional reboot. Your bumpy road point of info though does seem like in your case it might be a bad connection or loose wire. Also, have you tied anything else into the canbus network, like a TPC DSC module. Anything connected to the canbus, if it freaks out, can interrupt communication and cause lots of issues, crazy gauge behavior, radio resetting, warning lights, etc.

Thanks Petza...fortunately nothing has been added to the CANBUS network, totally stock from that perspective. The only item I have connected is a Tune2Air via the cable in the cubby box so I can Bluetooth stream music from the Iphone.

Looks like I should pull the radio out of the housing and see if anything is loose then, and barring that a trip to the dealer to check on any updates they might have on the software!

Much appreciated.
