key removal while in D, Tiptronic

key removal while in D, Tiptronic
I have a 2007,C4S with a tiptronic transmission. My car recently roled back into a tree. ouch
Okay, so I get into the car, start it and put into drive. Hang on, I forgot something in the house. Turn the off and remove the key!!! {still in Drive} Come back from getting what I need and the car is gone.
Is this normal for a porsche, you can take the key out while in drive???? All of my other three cars don't do that. Lexus,acura,and charger, you have to have it park before you take the key out!!

I think my Tip Boxster will not let me do that, not sure on the 911. I've done it a couple of times on the Boxster and I notice it every time, only thing i can think is no i can't get it out. I'll try for you on the 911.
