Exhaust choices

Hi,
After a very long time away from Porsche ownership, I finally got back buying a 997.2 C4S convertible this summer. It had 69.000 km on the dial, now 75.000 after a trip through Europe this summer.

Bought it from a great porsche dealer, and all brakes were changed under warranty.

Have of course gone down the slippery slope of mods, starting with lowering the car with Eibach Springs, (the car has PASM originally), as well as fitting a new 991.2 multifunction steering wheel. I have ordered the Sport Chrono package (just the software upgrade and the panel in the center console), to be installed in a couple of weeks at the dealers, so the car is nearly complete.

Had the car in for service last week, and unfortunately I have to change the top mounts of the shocks in the front, and worse, one of the secondary mufflers have something loose inside, which means I have to do something with the exhaust. This brings me to the question:

The car is fitted with PSE. I like the sound of the 991 PSE with the gurgle and pop. The current exhaust has a little of it under engine braking and low rpms, but could be a little more. I don´t want too loud exhaust, as the convertible has enough sound as it is.

I have searched and tried to find a conclusion around the 991 PSE, if it is the engine control that adds fuel to cylinders after you lift the pedal, or if it is due to the parts of the exhaust?

- Will the full 991 PSE Exhaust fit to the 997.2, seeming as the engine is more or less the same?
- I want to keep the PSE function with the option to have a "quiet" mode, and a "loud" mode, as long distances on highway is more comfortable with less sound.
- The dealer proposed the FVD Brombacher full exhaust system with the switch, but it is on the expensive side, at around $5-6.000,-

As I need to change the side mufflers anyway it seems, what other options would be a good solution, keeping the PSE functionality.

Thanks,

Chris

The 997.2 and 991 have different exhausts. To keep PSE you'll need to buy a valved exhaust from one of the aftermarket companies - FVD (as you mention), cargraphic, Fabspeed, Innotech, Akropovic, etc

Thanks for the reply,
I know the exhausts for the 991 and 997.2 are different, but seeming as so many other parts are interchangeable, I wondered if that would also be the case with the exhaust?

Thanks

Chris,

The two models (.1 / .2) are completely different. We have developed a great solution for the 991.2 PSE exhaust upgrade and have many extremely satisfied customers. I personally tested the various configurations (just cats, just x-pipe, cats & x-pipe) and I feel the best option for a little more sound would be using our Hi -Flow cats with the OEM PSE exhaust. It’s a simple solution to meet your sound goal. It would be a slight tweak to the sound level, while keeping the OEM sound and manners. We offer forum discounts, so PM me, if you wish to discuss this further.

Best Regards,

John
