With all of the negative publicity surroundind 969, I'm glad to see they did a good job. I wish them luck and wisdom moving forward.

so which is more durable? painting it or powder coating? and which has a nicer result?

Dave -

Powdercoating is a colored powder that is electrostatically charged in the gun it is applied with. It is sprayed onto a gounded wheel. The powder sticks to the wheel because of the reverse polarity and is then baked in a big oven that "melts" it to the wheel. The end result is a finish as durable as plastic. It's most definitely the way to paint nowadays.

So the guys on Rennlist seem to think that the heating process weakens the wheel alloy and that 'you shouldn't track' on powdered rims.
Anyone have any experience with this?????

Guys: powder coating is two-step - electrostatically applied dry paint that gets baked on to the component. It's exceptionally durable and will look really good for years. We use it a lot in the machine design space for shields and guards that get the crap beaten out of them by flying metal chips and abrasive slurries.

If it's applied correctly, it should last forever. I would consider masking the wheel bolt mating surface (leaving it bare metal) - but that's it.

We can strip and powder coat any color for about $175 a wheel depending on size. Let me know if I can help. Time frame is about 3-5 working days. Much more duarble then paint and they come out looking awesome.
