2008 997 Check Engine Light

Had diagnostics run at dealership on my 2008 Carrera (79k mi and always maintained) due to Check Engine Light on... told fuse in air pump failed and the electric inside air pump is not functioning properly...need new one. The repair will be $. $2,900. Also told of the possibility that they may need to “clean” exhaust system for another $3k. Total exposure is $6k. Should I trade it or seek other opinion? Any one have a similar experience?

I need more information to help you. The CEL (check engine light) can be triggered by many things, and is primary an emissions matter. Can you please share (or PM me) the estimate with work order from the dealer?

"Clean exhaust system for another $3K"? You can buy a brand new Tubi system for $500 less than that and I bet you'll like the sound better. http://www.championmotorsport.com/pr...bi-997s-ex.htm

Had that on my -06 C4S and loved it.

lol obviously that is a misquote of what the dealer said. Either they are talking fouled o2 sensors, a carbon cleaning or clogged cats but yeah no one is cleaning a catback lol.

op can you post the codes and then also exactly what the dealership said really needs to be done

Sounds like secondary air faults. If the pump is bad its bad. Clean exhaust!? If they think maybe the secondary air ports are also clogged then sounds like the tech is guessing. If I am reading your concern correctly that is. Stop taking your Carrera to a dealer. Find a good indy near you and get a second opinion.
