Which weight Mobile 1?

Hi guys:

I'm at 800 miles in the C4S and the oil display is alternating between full and minus one bar (0.4 litre).

I want to pick up a quart of Mobil 1 to be able to top it off when that bar disappears for good.

The question is: Which weight oil? Did Porsche use 0W40, 5W40, or what?

I didn't see any stickers regarding the proper weight oil... am I looking in the wrong place?

Any help appreciated,

-don

Don, Porsche fills em with 0-40. Your parts dept should have it. (I bought a 6 pack). Of course you can order it on line cheaper. I've got 925 on my car, it's down just one bar. I guess that's a good thing.

Thanks, Redlined. Appreciate the info!

I can get 0W40 from Sam's cheap. A six-pack should last quite a while... <g>

I feel that low oil consumption is a good thing, too. ;-)

Enjoy!

Out of curiosity Don, how are you doing re keeping the revs down? After 400 or so I've been lead footed, but not redlining the car. Very soon tho...haha

Yeah Red, this is an impossible task. On the 570 mile drive home, I never went over 4500 - okay, maybe 5k ONCE. I was just so happy to be in the car (and it was sooooo fast, even limiting the revs to 4500) that I took it real easy. Remember, I was on the Interstate for 550 of those miles. It must have paid off, I used no oil on that entire trip.

Since then, I've hit 6k a couple of times. It feels really good. VarioCam really comes on the step over 5k. Feels like the old 964 Turbo, without the violence.

First gear is so darned short (have I heard 1.6 seconds 0-30?) that it's impossible to step down smartly and grab second fast enough to avoid 6k.

I think that I've been really good, Redlined. I think that we'll reset the 'limit' to 5.5k really soon... I do want to stay away from the redline until 1500 miles or so. I think that that's best. I'm still enough of a mechanical engineer to understand the need for proper break-in.

The Evil Don is definitely having issues, though.

This car is just spectacular. I drove it to work today and I just can't wait to get out of here!

Have a great weekend,

-d
