997.2 Drive Belt Replacement Issue

Has anyone had an issue with the 16mm engine carrier bolt not lining up exactly with the access hole through the rear bumper? The bolt is about 2 mm lower than center making it impossible to get a socket on it. I could raise the engine slightly, but I'm not sure this is the best way to solve the problem. Any suggestions?

Laducsp is infamous around these parts
We ‘support’ the engine when we disengage the motor from its rear mount to change the water pump, when we replace engine mounts and other regular maintenance items. If that works for you in this case, it is fine to do it. Just lift from a strong central point and be sure to use a wood piece to center the weight and protect the sump. Lift very slowly. You should only need a small bit to get to alignment. If not maybe something else is off. Use good kit. Stands and chocks for safety when needed. My experience only. No guarantees.

Yeah, that’s a pretty common headache with that bolt. If it’s just 2mm off, slightly raising the engine or shifting the mount with a pry bar can usually get it to line up—just go slow and steady so you don’t stress anything. Some folks also enlarge the access hole a bit, but that’s more of a last resort if you want to keep things clean.

By the way, while you’re wrestling with hardware, don’t forget the little wins—something like upgrading to Men's Reversible Belts for daily wear. Two looks, one belt, and no alignment issues there.
