Question about GIAC Flash.

Is it better to buy the loader and do it youself? or just have someone flash the ECU for you?
Anyone know how much both options are?

Thanks.

Shawn-

The handheld device does not store the programs, it is just the method of switching programs.

An authorized G.I.A.C. dealer has to load the programs for you. You cannot do this yourself. You can either ship an ECU to us, or visit your local G.I.A.C. dealer.

Hope this makes sense.

Mike

I don't think it does much w/o the intake and exhaust, does it? I did not have a good experience w/the GIAC flash on my GT3.

As far as I know, the GIAC hand flashing device is not available for the 997 yet.

BIG difference on my 997 C4. I installed the V-Flow and GIAC. The improvement is in the throttle response which is very noticeable (moreso than the Sport Chrono in my opinion).

However, I have the stock exhaust and I've noticed that with the increased airflow, there is some resonance in the cabin at 6000 rpm and up.

One other issue (which GIAC refuses to return my emails on) is an occasional exhaust pop (backfire) when gunning from a dead stop. This has only happened 3 or 4 times total but did not occur prior to the modification.

Thinking about uninstalling both mods as a result of these issues but they are relatively minor and infrequent so I'm debating whether or not I want to give up the quicker availability of power.

I had the GIAC done on my 997S (yes it is avail for 997) and noticed a nice throttle response as well. I also get a few exhaust pops now and then....not sure if that is a good thing or bad thing?

Synergy, you were able to obtain the portable Windows based Flashloader for your 997S?

I had Alex at Sharwerks do the GIAC upgrade which pulls from a server that is preset for authorized dealers.

Oh. In the posts above they were mentioning the handheld flashloader. You can get a chip for any 997 but the flashloader that you can plug in yourself below the dash and switch the software mapping manually as needed is not available yet.

If anyone can get through to Garret at GIAC and actually get a response on the backfiring issue, please post it here.

Please explain these "exhaust pops". Does the car hesitate when this happens? I used my personal 997 for all of the development work for the intake and chip upgrade and never exerienced this. If it is easier to explain this over the phone, please feel free to call me at 480-317-9911.

Guys I just want to make sure that you that the popping you are getting is mostly due to the exhausts, headers and so forth as well They grumble/pop naturally...

I have stock exhaust. Yes, car hesitates before pop. This is not a small crackle in my car it is fairly loud. 100% sure it started occurring after GIAC flash and V-Flow install. Same for cabin resonance at 6000+ rpm.
