997 Tech Question

Does anyone know how to find and/or disconnect the seatbelt beeping sound that comes on if you don't wear your seatbelt while driving? Sometimes I don't feel like wearing my seatbelt to drive a coupleof blocks.

if anyone knows, please let me know.

thanks

Seat belt alarm

What you can do is drag the passenger side belt across and insert it into the driver's side connection. I used to do this with my GT-3 on the track when using 6 point belts. If your lucky and find a bad set of belts at your dealer, cut off the metal tab and use that.

The seat belt chime is a nuisance, but can't be reprogrammed.

After ending up in a rollover, where I was uninjured because I was wearing a seatbelt & probably dead otherwise, I have worn belts 100 percent since.

A high percentage of accidents happen very close to home, why chance preventable injury for a minor inconvenience?

There have been a couple of posts on other boards re this - the chime can be programmed OFF but it has to be done by the dealer and some folks stated that dealer wanted something in writing to support the request.

If you're cool with your dealer, ask for re-programming, if not, just buy a buckle from a salvage yard or Porsche body shop.

not worth the time or effort, my recommendation, don't be lazy, wear your seat belt, it can only help.

Hi: I can't help but put in my two cents on this topic. Don't ever drive without your belts on. I'm a doc and I've seen bad accidents a few blocks from the house.

I apologize for sounding patronizing but i don't want any of the guys on this cool board to get hurt.

Regards,

Doc

Yes it can. You need the PIWIS computer to do it (i.e. dealer job). It will still chime of you are rolling and remove the seatbelt (for obvious safety reasons), however from a dead stop the chime does not come on at 15mph (as it does from the factory). The dash warning light stays on.
The comment about not wearing it for a couple block drive is way too dangerous. I had mine turned off just for the ride from the mailbox to the garage. You are crazy if you don't wear a belt on the road.
