Cargraphic wheels
Cargraphic wheels
PLs any expert tell me how to distinguish between 19" racing Forged or 19" racing cast? There is a cap with a red 'string'. It comes with the Cast one only? Or the forged one also has this cap?
Well first off I think the racing wheels and the other 5 spoke are forged.
As for the 'strings' I think you are referring to the fake centerlock covers that they use as wheel caps. They are probably an option versus the normal Cagraphic wheel cap.

Cargraphic have SS lip and you can choose Forged or Cast centre. For the red 'string' thing, I think you're talking the center lock dummy like mine. They were OEM cap size and it can be install with most Porsche wheels. I think they were about $300 a set.

Most of the cargraphic wheels in the mesh design are cast. I have yet seen one set that was forged on the street. fyi I have 20' cargraphic racing wheels for sale forr 997 fitment. pm if interested
The two wheels are similar in appearance. The cast wheel has a little thicker mesh section then the forged wheel. The cast wheels are made in the same alloy that the 996 and 997 GT3 super cup wheels from BBS. This alloy ALSIMG7 is a combination of aluminum and magnesium. The wheel is heat treated after casting and every wheel is X-rayed! This alloy allows the wheel to flexible under extreme loading before and not just shear like many aluminum centers. Here are some the numbers that Cargraphic tests their wheels to.
18” Racing 1727lbs
19” Racing 1727lbs
20” Racing 2090lbs
21” Racing 2200lbs
22” Racing 2200lbs
The forged wheel is not just produced from forged aluminum blanks. The blanks are spun forged which is a very special forging process. A standard forged blank is heated up and hit in a large forging press. The alloy is pushed into the shape of the wheel blank and then machined. This process stretches the metal out to create the shape, but also changes the grain structure of the alloy from the inside to the outside.(making the wheel stronger on the inside then the outside) The spun forged process allows the blank to have consistent grain structure across the wheel which makes it much stronger.
Hope that helps.

RSS Delivery Issues?
I just ordered (last week) from Road Sport Supply a set of Turbo 19's for a 997S-X51 which I anticipate taking delivery of this October in Virginia (but I live in Connecticut).
Geoff Escalette has been a great help in the process. I think they just became THE Cargraphics distributor in the USA so maybe there was some hang up there in negotiations. Sounds like all systems are go. But the proof is in the pudding.....
I'll post if I have any issues, but I look forward to receiving them well before the delivery.
When I get it all dialed, I'll actually have a car to photograph!
