I have run my car beyond empty a couple of time; I have never experienced that happening (knocks on wood). So keeping the car at full is probably not a fix.

Same here. No such probs despite running well past the low of fuel light. Knock on wood!

Anybody have more exhaust residue buildup on the left tips vs the right?

Unacceptable for a car that is priced in the 90k Range. (90k is a conservative number to.) What is more disturbing is that lack of acknowledgment from Porsche.

your description sounds familiar. I have experienced something similar three times -- all of them after I was racing the engine a bit. I took it to the dealer, but there were no codes indicating a problem. Also, the problem went away after about a ten minute shut-off.

I last experienced that with about 3,000 miles. I am now at 8,500.

In my experience, I would try to hold a steady RPM level, but the car would not do it. The RPM level would bounce up and down at least 300-400 RPMs; similar to how the vario cams act at a low RPM at start-up, but a lot more exaggerated! Does that sound like the same problem?

maybe it's because that you drive the car too slow? some sort've gunk may've been built up inside the cylinders. Just give it more gas and shift at 7600rpms to clear that **** up.

Scoop,

The exact same sht happened to me. Pulled off the Freeway, and it started chuggin' bad! Didn't even want to drive it home. Had it towed to Porsche. They said.... Damn, I can't remember what the hell was wrong. Think a missfire or something. The point is, it was a fluke. Happened over 3k ago and no issues since.

Still pisses you off though. Good Luck. Let me look for my repair slip and I'll let you know. Later.

I bet the dealership found nothing wrong especially if you had no malfunctions or codes in the ECU which is what happens 99% of the time.

Thanks. I hope the guy that has the black box in his car has it happen again real soon so Porsche can come up with a real solution. Last I heard the solution to the E55's that were having the exact same problem was a new wiring harness...and that's not a simple or small repair .

Thanks! I called my P dealer and they said they have never heard of this. Hopefully it will not come back.

You should inform your dealer to check with Porsche's technical specialist area and educate themselves regarding this problem. Hope it does not return either a Porsche isolates this issue and issues a fix asap.
