997 s v miata
As tough as it might be I'd do what I could to ignore the guy. You probably didn't pick the 911 for it's 0-60 times. I'm sure you were aware of cars out there that would beat the 911 times yet you picked the Porsche for a variety of reasons. Racing him just gives the guy credibility that he doesn't deserve. It's kind of like a guy picking a fight with a girl. If he wins he's an unbelievable jerk. If he loses he's pathetic. In this case the Miata driver is the girl. (No offense to any girls reading who could kick my butt :-))

It is possible to make that kind of power reliably with a big turbo, ported, polished, and shaved with heavy duty clutch and limited slip. For about $7500 in engine work you could easily make one hang with a turbo up to about 140. Check out www.flyinmiata.com to see what's available. 600 hp can be done.

I am just waiting to get my 997 in a year or so when I get my own place, but I find your "concern" a little funny. If I drive a 997, I wouldn't even care if I get beat by a jogger. VERY different class. Miatas can be serious track cars because they are light and can be fast, thus will handle pretty good. Even my S2000 can outperform a lot of exotics out there on track around corners, overall lap time, no, but around corners I can make up for the time lost.
Does this mean S2000 > F430? Not a chance. Every car has pros and cons no matter how cheap/expensive it is.
I would just laugh at his friend and deal with people in the same class. =)

Different strokes for different folks. A coworker of mine has a blown Miata with lots of $$ in engine and suspension. Nothing can touch it at the autocross, its his 4 year project. Hes into the old roadster (think British) type cars and the Miata fit the bill nicely with all the new mod cons. I think hes pushing 250hp and thats a lot of motivation for that light of a car.
Hell when I get the space I will get an old skool Miata as a track only car. It will have a full cage, gutted and cheap as hell to fix if ya bang against a wall. plus the Miata clubs always have races.

As i said before he said hes run low 11's with (corrected) 16 psi through a jackson?? sc ... apparently its a different engine in the car but the car looks stock and still runs the same drivetrain??!?
O well we'll see where this goes!!!

I have seen new stock Z06's run mid 11's at E-town. Don't even think
the new 997TT can match those numbers!! It is one SERIOUSLY fast car.
here's the dyno plot of the supercharger kit for the miata from Jackson Racing's web site. Not quite the HP he says. Its either a motor swap or he is yanking your chain.

The Final Outcome
We hit the streets pretty late, did 2 from a stop, 2 from 40 and then a highway run. I don't know why I bothered honestly... Killed him everytime, it wasn't even a contest... Some of you might criticize for dragging a porsche but it was all in good fun, didn't really hit any amazing speeds (less than 100) as i was easily pulling away no contest... so much for 11's 1/4 mile and 300 + hp much less 17 psi sc
:::::THE BEST PART::::::
the z06 guy meets up later and the kid starts talking trash... similar to what he did to me.... MISTAKE..... i dunno if he didn't know if it was a z06 or what, but wow!! chevy built one hell of a rocket... It was fun to watch though! i doubt the z06 was really trying and he still killlllled him. I didn't do any runs with the z06 as i already know the outcome I watched him take off from a light and WOWOWOWOWWOOWWOWOWOWOWOWOW

jackson racing DOES make the SC kit for the Miata.
but by looking at their posted Dyno chart,
i think that guys either lying like crazy, or he put in $hxtloads of money
into his miata. no idea how much psi its running, but the highest power figure
JRSC kit shows on its graph is about 160whp.
